In the period of 4 until 11 September 2018 Roni Gilboa will be in Amsterdam for two courses Touch Therapy Techniques for treating people dealing with cancer.

This course is dedicated to understanding and practicing integrated palliative care for people dealing with cancer through touch therapy.

In this course we will talk honestly and without fear about issues that are characteristic to the oncology environment – what is cancer; what happens to the body when cancer strikes; what are the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects; what are the standard and innovative courses of treatment in conventional medicine; what are their side effects; what are the phases that cancer patients experience; what is palliative care.illustration_1-kopie

But mostly the course is based on hands-on practice of touch therapy techniques that apply to the oncological environment, treating various side effects, trauma, pain management, lack of sleep, neuropathy, etc. Even though these techniques are deeply rooted in traditional Thai Massage and Thai Acupressure, in this course we will explore the fascinating and intriguing opportunities that present themselves when these traditions interact with the more modern methods of Shiatsu and Fascia Manipulation.

We will practice attentive presence, therapeutic intent and flexibility, we will navigate through the integrative approach, we will dance, meditate, exercise Chi Gong and we will explore our own therapeutic stance when facing life threatening illness.

The course incorporates knowledge and experience accumulated over more than eight years; treating thousands of patients at the hospital and at the community clinic; evidence based treatments affiliated with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and the insight Roni’s teachers gave her throughout the years.

She expresses personal thanks to Roey Tzuk, Noam Tyroler, David Lutt, Tomer Bashan, Chris Mcalister, Pichest Boonthumme, Sharon Azran, Adi Karmil and her patients and students who teach her humility.

  •  What is cancer?
  •  How does it affect the body, mind, soul and heart of a patient?
  • What is my therapeutic stance?
  • The “do”s and “don’t”s – contraindications and basic principles for treatment of cancer patients
  • Conventional medicine treatment and side effects
  • Palliative care – The five stages of grief – The healing crisis
  • The future of conventional cancer care

  • Re-discovering, revisiting and readjusting our therapeutic tools.

Modern life can be extremely stressful, challenging and demanding. This affects our health, our well-being and our state of mind. We may feel its manifestations in various ways;

  • through aches and pains
  • difficulty sleeping a meaningful night’s sleep
  • troubles with our digestive system
  • being anxious and worried

It may also affect our relationships with family and friends as we struggle to survive and endure the tests that life presents us.

In this one day workshop we will meet the Psoas (muscle of the soul) and Vagus (nerve of well-being) and explore various ways and options of applying traditional Thai massage and other techniques to work these sometimes un-tapped gifts that we have in our bodies. We will learn how to relax and release the Psoas and improve its range of movement, how to stimulate the Vagus nerve and work on its tonal elasticity.

Scientists and medical professionals call stress one of the silent killers of our times. Finding ways to deal with and contain the challenges of modern living is becoming ever more important in our quest to improve our health and our well-being.

Roni’s experience in treating people struggling with cancer and their caregivers has given her an insight into the repercussions of our stress-filled daily lives. This workshop implements these insights in ways that are relevant to each and every one.

The workshop schedule will be

  • 08.30 – 09.00 Breakfast (incl.)
  • 09.00 – 12.00 Teaching
  • 12.00 – 14.00 Lunch and rest
